Our Purpose.
Medicine and Art at UCLA strives to show the importance of creativity and interdisciplinary skills in healthcare and STEM. Our organization leads events where students can appreciate art and showcase their talent at our annual art gallery alongside our diverse student body and medical students. Something special about Medicine and Art is that we use Art Therapy and wellness as a tool in Medicine by volunteering in the community and utilizing our artistic abilities for hospital patients. There is a space for everyone: dancers, musicians, painters, photographers, videographers, and more. Join us in creating a space for creativity as well as professional development.
Our Committees
ART THERAPY
This committee works with the Creative Arts department at Ronald Reagan and will be responsible to take out the art cart for at least 1 day a week. The art cart goes around the hospital and visits patients to ask if they're interested in art supplies, drawing kits, word searches, etc. This committee will be coming up with creative new ideas to add to the cart, making it desirable for patients and their families. Additionally, this group will be responsible for creating the new program "Sketch Artists" in which an artist will draw patient portraits at the UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center. Additional programs include "Artists On Call" and "Art By the Bedside" in which artists will host art workshops and work with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.
MUSIC THERAPY
This committee is for those who entered the club because they are interested in the musical arts. The goal for this committee is to provide service by playing music for the patients at Ronald Reagan Medical Center. The program is called Music By The Bedside. Staff team that chooses this committee should be able to play an instrument that would be appropriate to bring in the patients rooms. Additional volunteer opportunities involve music performances at senior care centers and the Tiverton (UCLA Health) to uplift residents.
